What is IMT? |
I practice a type of body work called Integrative Manual Therapy, or IMT. It is a gentle type of body work, with a non-invasive approach to healing and health that is similar to Cranial Sacral Therapy. It is a pioneering hands-on therapeutic practice that aims at alleviating pain, increasing range of motion, and helps you to fulfill your potential as a human being.
IMT adopts a holistic approach to healing by viewing the body as a web work of interrelated systems. This includes vascular, nervous, muscular- skeletal, lymphatic, autonomic, circulatory, energetic, connective tissue, and visceral tissues. It also includes emotional and cognitive processes that can influence our bodies.
Using my hands, I first work to assess what system is most influencing your symptoms. I then match therapeutic techniques with your body’s needs. For example, if you have muscle tissue problems, a technique called Strain and Counterstrain is wonderful to restore muscle tone. The result is treatment that is more specific and supportive of long term recovery or growth.
Who Benefits from IMT?
IMT can address a wide range of pain and symptoms, from migraines to back injuries to GI tract dysfunctions. IMT's gentle approach is also appropriate for children, and I even perform it on animals.
Here are examples of conditions that have had success using IMT:
